We're preparing a new release with formula-powered drop-down values
and other exciting new features. Behind the scenes, we've also been
modernizing Calcapp for the future.
We are introducing a new set of plans at higher price points.
Existing apps stay on the old plans at the old prices, with access to
most of our new features. The new button types, the data editor,
named values and action formulas require you to upgrade to a 2023
plan.
Our new release is our biggest yet. In this blog post, we explain why
it's taken longer than anticipated, and detail some upcoming changes
to your subscription.
Our next release has been slightly delayed, because we are adding new
features to it. Two of those features are announced in this post,
including a better formula editing experience and an easy way to
check multiple items in Calcapp Creator.
Calcapp will become significantly better in the coming months. Action
formulas will enable buttons to run formulas, and a new data editor
will allow you to easily incorporate spreadsheet data into your apps.
We work hard to ensure that your apps continue working, even as we
add features to Calcapp. With our new formula engine, we have made
some minor changes, but they should not affect your existing apps.
Panels have been renamed to screens to better reflect the
expectations of app authors. There are other name changes, which
better reflect how Calcapp is used today and how we expect it to be
used tomorrow.
Our next release will add a brand new formula engine, which will
support decimal commas in addition to decimal points in formulas. It
will also come with much-improved formula documentation and more than
100 new functions.
Ranges will enable authors to easily and concisely refer to multiple
values in formulas. Ranges, combined with the new function SUMIF,
will make conditionally summing values much easier than before.
Calcapp 4 will feature much-improved support for tabular data.
Buttons will be able to initiate complex workflows and our formula
language will gain many new features. We hope to deliver the first
new features in a few months.
We have significantly improved deliverability of email sent from
calcapp.net, including reports sent from your apps. We now recommend
that you use the Reply-To field, instead of the Sender field, to
direct replies to your reports.
Our next release is just around the corner! We're currently finishing
up feature development work and expect to release our new version
next month. This blog post also discusses some of the stability
problems we've experienced as of late.
We will introduce paid plans soon and we now share a preliminary
version of our pricing. You will choose between three paid plans for
private, public and embedded apps. There will be a limited, no-cost
plan meant for personal use. We also discuss our enterprise plans and
much more.
We're currently busy introducing paid plans to Calcapp, which
explains why the blog has been more quiet than usual. Our post has
more details on what we're currently working on.
Calcapp was successfully moved to Google Cloud today. Calcapp Creator
was read-only for roughly an hour and Calcapp Connect was fully
offline for three minutes. All services are now fully operational.
We will move Calcapp to Google Cloud on September 30. Running shared
apps should not be impacted by the switch, but you will be unable to
make changes to apps for an hour or more on September 30. The new
servers will make our web site speedier.
Calcapp will move to a new cloud provider in September to ensure that
we continue to deliver a great experience as we grow. The service may
be unavailable during short intervals when we make the switch, but
apps you have already accessed or installed should continue to work.
Calcapp Creator will soon be much faster when editing large apps.
Changing a field name or caption will be up to 30 times faster and
memory usage is expected to drop to half of what we currently use. We
realized these gains by embracing modern web standards.
Do you have a spreadsheet you'd like to convert to an app? Get in
touch with us and we'd be happy to assess whether Calcapp is a good
fit at no charge. If you need us to do the conversion work, we'll
give you an estimate of the work involved and charge you an hourly
fee for our time.
If your app isn't in English, your users are not getting a great
experience today: Numbers may not be formatted correctly and some
messages are displayed in English. We're working to improve this
situation.
Cross-references will be available in February and calculated
properties will be available in March. Once we end the beta, pricing
will likely depend on if your app is for private or public use.
Calculated properties will make your apps considerably more powerful.
With our upcoming release, you will be able to reference fields that
are part of other panels in formulas. You will also be able to use
formulas to determine if a field is visible or a button is enabled,
the color of a field, the recipients of an emailed report, and more.
A major update is coming with 244 formula functions, support for text
and dates, number formatting, error handling and improved app
layouts. We detail all the exciting new features based on your
feedback.
Today we launch a new website for Calcapp, which includes learning
resources, this blog and an opportunity to sign up for our preview
release. Our aim is to allow you to create calculator apps using
spreadsheet skills.
The first preview version of Calcapp Creator is complete and ready
for beta testing. We detail the new preview feature, app creation
interface and the beginnings of our help system.
We unveil Calcapp Creator, our web-based app designer that leverages
spreadsheet skills to build calculator apps. We showcase the
interface, formula system and preview how apps will run through
Calcapp Connect.
